Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Durmaz is a faculty member at the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Near East University. He completed his PhD studies through projects focusing on enzyme purification and food enrichment based on natural products and cosmetics, revealing significant findings on the anticancer effects, molecular mechanisms, and genetic regulatory roles of bioactive natural compounds.
During his master’s and doctoral studies, he was supported by both the YÖK 100/2000 and TÜBİTAK 2211-Ascholarships and received an Innovative Research Award for his contributions. He also received advanced training in analytical techniques at the University of Barcelona, gaining expertise in the biochemical analysis of natural compounds.
His main research interests include cancer biochemistry, genetic mechanisms, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, cell culture techniques, biomarker analysis, and the therapeutic potential of natural products. He conducts interdisciplinary projects focused on natural bioactive formulations and targeted therapeutic strategies.
Dr. Durmaz has authored more than 25 scientific papers published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Scientific Reports, Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and Frontiers in Pharmacology.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Durmaz collaborates with research groups in the United States, Spain, and Northern Cyprus, and actively contributes to the professional development of young scientists by organizing training programs and educational events in cell culture, natural product biochemistry, and biochemical education.
